How To Find The Perfect Golf Clubs For You

Identify your golf goals Its a good idea to determine your goals before you go shopping. This will make the process easier, and youll be less likely to be pressured into buying something you dont really want. For example, if you will be playing only infrequently, two or three times a year and not practicing much, theres really no need to spend much time or effort into selecting your clubs. If you expect to be playing weekly, youll probably want to set your sights a bit higher.
Decide how much money youre willing to spend If money isnt an object, or if youre an avid golfer, you may want to consider buying the best clubs you can afford. However, a good set of clubs can be quite expensive and if youre not sure of your level of dedication to the sport, it might be a good idea to look for an inexpensive first set. Pro shops are a good place to being your research.
Shaft options There are two basic options in golf shafts that you should pay attention to. The first option is shaft composition, is the shaft made of steel or graphite? The second option is shaft flex, or how much the shaft will bend or flex during your swing. Graphite is lighter which helps to generate swing speed, and will be more flexible. Steel shafts are more durable, stiffer, and are generally cheaper. A good rule of thumb is that graphite is a better fit for women and seniors. Younger men, who are generally stronger, might want to go with steel.
Should you buy a full set of clubs? A full set of clubs from a single manufacturer is a good choice if youre new to the game. Youll have a set of uniform heads and shafts that all offer the same amount of flex, this helps you to develop a consistent swing tempo. Separate clubs can be a lot less expensive. Generally youll need a putter, a pitching and a sand wedge, irons, and drivers.

Should you get standard clubs or custom fit clubs? Buying standard clubs is like buying one size fits all. Sometimes it fits, sometimes it doesnt. If youre a 5 10 male, youll do just fine, thats who the clubs are designed for. If not, youll do better with a clubfitting. A fitter measures your height, hand size and finger length and observes your stance as you hit the ball and its subsequent trajectory. After these measurements are taken youll have clubs that are custom fit for you.
Are golf lessons right for you? If youve been golfing for a while, you might think you dont need lessons. But an instructor can always help you to improve your golf game. If youre a new golfer, a few lessons at the beginning of your golf career can prevent you from developing bad form and habits.

Rent or borrow clubs to get a feel for the different brands. And dont forget to shop around. The prices on golf clubs vary greatly, stores carry different stock at different price points.
