Golfing has become phenomenally popular over the last 45 years, producing such world-class champions as Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. Some first-class courses too have become household names; think of Wentworth, St. Andrews, Augusta and Pinewood.

Golfing consists of more than just owning a set of golf clubs and playing the game of golf. It takes knowledge of the game as well as knowledge of your golf equipment, especially the golf clubs or irons and which golf iron is best. The 1-iron is one that has been speculated about for many years. Although, you can still get them, they are very rare and seldom used. 1-irons came about in the 1920s, and were used with some accuracy by experienced golf professionals like Jack Nicklaus or Ben Hogan. The average golfer found the 1-iron much more work than they were worth. Why struggle with a big 1-iron when you can use a smaller iron and get a much more accurate shot was most golfers’ theory.

Most golf enthusiast will agree that the seven iron is the “perfect” golf club. Many will say that they can do without their five and eight iron. Then there is the ever important putter that is hard to replace. The least useful of all clubs, and of any pieces of equipment in your golf bag is the one iron. Lee Trevino, a pro golfer even said that God couldn’t hit a good shot with a one iron.

There are many people who have misconceptions about golf; surely these people have never played golf. Golf is a game that carries a stereotype that it’s for older adults, it’s slow moving, provides little exercise, and requires a lot of money to enjoy. This is simply not true; in fact, in many cases it’s just the opposite.

Santa Catalina Island is an incredibly rugged and stunningly beautiful island located just off the Southern California mainland. Home to some of the most abundant and diverse marine life in the world, the island is known as the birthplace of modern sport fishing, as well as a world class dive destination. 22 miles long and 8 miles wide, the island is the only one in the chain that has been developed, but most of the island is still uninhabited and pristine.

Golf club submissions were 2,500 in 2008 (as opposed to 500 a year in the 1990s). There are so many clubs these days that it’s very hard for someone to find the right golf clubs.

Are you a golfer who is looking for a family vacation or excursion? Let’s face it; most families are big on golf. Your children (and sometimes your spouse) are the hardest to convince that golf can be fun. While not the same, why not trying out a miniature golf course? There is usually one within driving distance from your home. For miniature golf enthusiasts, there are even vacations built around visiting putt-putt golf courses. In any case, you’ll have some time to bond with the family and get in a little putting practice.

Like all jobs, in golf also, it is very much essential and important to choose the correct tools. The name of the driver may not change the style or accuracy of the shots but it surely will show the standard of tools used. So, the player needs to choose the right tools to be distinguished from the amateurs and be considered as professional like Tiger Woods.

Every golfer would agree to the fact that there’s nothing quite like golf. Hitting the course on a nice, clear day with friends over a round of golf has got a way of taking your mind of your personal and professional hassles is be it home, school or work. Golf is popularly known as the gentleman’s game. A certain way for everyone to enjoy a trip to the links is a little common courtesy in keeping the golf course in good shape. Remember the Golden Rule and apply it on the course as one of the many golf tips.

One of the greatest players ever to step up to the green, Arnold Palmer was born in Latrobe, PA – a city which is justifiably proud of its most famous native son. Ever since his first major tournament win all the way back in 1955, Palmer has been one of the biggest names in golf – many fans refer to him as “The King”. Along with Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, Palmer is one of the Big Three names in the golf world. Palmer’s playing was in large part responsible for the increased interest in golf as a spectator sport once games began to be televised in the 1950s.
